BAY AREA — “I’ll have what she’s having.”
The iconic Meg Ryan scene from “When Harry Met Sally” comes to Fay’s mind whenever she shows off her Modern-Shed craft studio turned home office to friends and family.
“That’s pretty much the reaction everyone has,” says Fay, who bought her Modern-Shed nearly a year ago. “They think it’s really cool that I have my own space. They ask, ‘What do you do out there?’ and I say, ‘Whatever I want.’ I can make it as neat or as sloppy as I want. It’s my space.”
As a reader of Dwell magazine, Darius had been aware of Modern-Shed for years.
“Probably since 2002-2003, I’ve had an interest in prefabricated architecture,” said Darius, who lived in a loft in Oakland’s Jack London Square at the time. “I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it always be cool to have a Modern-Shed?’” Continue reading

TACOMA — Jeff Bergerson has always been fascinated with living spaces.
As a child, whenever his parents drove him around local neighborhoods in the Puget Sound area of Washington state, Jeff would marvel at the homes outside his car window.
“When I was a kid, I thought I wanted to be an architect,” he said. “Then, I realized I hated school and didn’t like math, so that didn’t seem like it’d be a good fit long-term.”
